Study Resources and Strategy

ResourceWhat It’s Good For
This course’s narrated decksConceptual foundation and service-by-service review
AWS Academy labsSeeing how services actually behave in the console
AWS Skill Builder practice examsCalibrating readiness and identifying weak domains
The official AWS exam guideThe authoritative list of in-scope services and topics
Prioritize weak domains, not favorite topics. Practice exam results broken down by domain tell you where review time will pay off most.

Common Exam Trap: Look-Alike Services

Often confusedRemember it this way
CloudWatch vs. CloudTrailWhat the system is doing now vs. who did what to the account (Module 10)
Security group vs. network ACLStateful, per resource, allow only vs. stateless, per subnet, allow and deny (Module 5)
GuardDuty vs. InspectorDetects threats in account activity vs. scans workloads for vulnerabilities (Module 4)
Shield vs. WAFDDoS protection vs. filtering malicious web requests (Module 4)
Pricing Calculator vs. Cost Explorer vs. BudgetsEstimate before vs. analyze past spend vs. alert on thresholds (Module 2)
RDS vs. DynamoDB vs. RedshiftRelational OLTP vs. NoSQL at scale vs. OLAP data warehouse (Module 8)

More Exam Traps

TrapHow to Avoid It
Misplacing the shared responsibility lineAsk: is this of the cloud (AWS) or in the cloud (customer)? It shifts with the service type
Ignoring “most cost-effective”That phrase usually rules out answers that work but cost more
Choosing the wrong Support planMatch the need — 24/7 production support, a TAM — to the lowest plan that provides it
Missing “choose TWO”Multiple-response questions say how many answers to pick — pick exactly that many
Read the whole question. The deciding word is often in the middle — skimming straight to the answers causes avoidable mistakes.

Topics to Review Beyond These Modules

The CLF-C02 exam guide includes a few topics these ten modules only touch on. Review them before exam day:

Cloud ConceptsAWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF)perspectives and benefits of a planned cloud adoption
Cloud ConceptsMigration strategiese.g., rehost, replatform, refactor — and tools like AWS DMS
Technology and ServicesAI/ML and analytics servicesat a high level — what each is for, not how to build with it
Billing, Pricing, and SupportSupport resourcesAWS re:Post, AWS Marketplace, AWS Partner Network, Health Dashboard
Use the exam guide’s task statements as a checklist. Anything you can’t explain in a sentence or two is worth a review.

Building a Final Study Plan

1. Review
each of the four domains once
→
2. Practice exam
a full exam, scored by domain
→
3. Return to weak spots
more time where scores are lowest

Work through each domain in turn, pair each with practice questions, and reserve extra time for the weakest domains — especially the two biggest: Technology and Security.

Space out final review. Cycling through domains, testing, and returning to weak spots aids retention better than one long read-through the night before.

Key Terms

CLF-C02 exam domain
One of four weighted content areas the Cloud Practitioner exam is organized around
Multiple-response question
A question with two or more correct answers; the question states how many to choose
Unscored question
An experimental question that doesn’t count toward your score and can’t be identified during the exam
AWS exam guide

Review Questions

  1. What are the four domains of the CLF-C02 exam, and roughly how are they weighted?
  2. Why should you answer every question on the exam, even when you’re unsure?
  3. How would you tell Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail apart in an exam question?
  4. What question should you ask yourself to place a task on the correct side of the shared responsibility model?
  5. Why might practice exam results be more useful than re-reading familiar modules when planning final review time?
